Karma Cola Foundation

We wanted to make sure our cola farmers benefit directly from the sale of our drinks so we set up the Karma Cola Foundation. Proceeds from the sale of every bottle of Karma Cola go back to the people of Boma in Sierra Leone.  We call it Thirst Aid.

Since bottling our first batch in 2012, we’ve been able to send almost USD85,000 back to Sierra Leone

The Karma Cola Foundation was founded on the guiding principle that the eight communities we support in the Tiwai region of Sierra Leone know what’s best for them. So they do just that.

The Foundation is headed by Albert Tucker, a Fairtrade king and former director of Twin Trading, a pioneering Fairtrade company. To help administer the funds, we work in conjunction with the German charity Welthungerhilfe and the Agro Forestry Farmers Association.

But the Karma Cola Foundation doesn't tell the people of Boma decide what projects to fund as they know what they need more than we do.

The first project, the Makenneh Bridge, joined old and new Boma and ensures the safe transportation of people and supplies.

The people of Boma also decided to spend the funds to send 60 girls to school, sponsored an HIV/AIDS dance troupe, built a rice huller to provide food for future months, supported 75 farmers through a seed bank, funded 4 teacher’s who teach 207 children, rehabilitated 12 forest farms, and looked after 2000 people during the Ebola crisis. Miraculously nobody was infected.

We believe this is the beginning of a long and mutually beneficial partnership.

Karma is the ethos behind the business – the more fizzy Karma Cola sells the more good we can do.
